I absolutely love doing these this time each year. My Support Local Guide gives me the opportunity to share new to me/new Irish brands that are making a name for themselves. I don’t always get around to doing an individual post on every brand I try so I make a note for my gift guides. This year because I have become a little more sustainable you’ll definitely notice that slant on the brands featured. Anyway here we go for my Support Local Gift guide for 2017
Airmid are an Irish brand based down in Kerry that have beautiful gift sets.
I love the scents range offered by Airmid and they also do shampoo bars, bath melts and shaving kits, even candles! I love buying myself gift sets as a way to try out a brand and see what the whole product range is like and I think it’s always nice to receive them.
I wrote about Jo Browne a while back before I had tried the brand. Since then, Joanne herself made contact and sent me out the Sweet Note fragrance to try. I brought it with me to Canada and used it every single day. The scent is subtle but you know it’s there and it is so handy. Just make sure you know they know it’s a fragrance, I gave this to my mother-in-law on the plane and she thought it was lip balm! Understandably.
They have fragrances for men and women and are available online and in Avoca, Kilkenny shops, etc
A Brewery/Distillery Tour
Craft Distilleries and Craft Breweries are all the rage at the moment and why not?! We should celebrate the years of tradition which is why it’s great to see so many popping up. A nice bottle of whiskey/gin/hamper of Craft Irish beer can never go wrong in someone’s drink cabinets – or maybe you want to give someone a little bit more. Most distilleries and some breweries offer tours so you can see how it’s made and try the different styles/types/stages of the process. You can also be cheeky and do it as a group present so you get to make new memories and all go do the tour!
Aoife is a friend so it’s a bit of a cheeky plug. However, she is very talented. Whether it’s a unique or quirky card you’re after, an ode to the Irish-isms, or a custom print – Finger Doodles has you covered. Her style is undoubtedly Irish and she’s been making a name for herself because of it. Here’s where you can find them around the island of Ireland.
Silver Apples Belfast– For the Little ones
I adore this brand, introduced to me by one of my best friends as it’s actually her cousin’s business. The little pinafores and waistcoats are great unique gifts, and she will tie in with the Christmas theme. They are also reversible so you could have a non-themed side and themed side so you get more wear out of it. The quality is superb and you can be sure no one else will have the same gift.
Ireland’s first fruit winery. We all know the benefits of berries but did you think you could make wine from them? Pamela and Brett have a deep commitment to the world around them. When they lived in America they came across fruit wine at a party. Upon returning to live in Ireland they began making wine from the wild elderberries and blackberries around the Wicklow Mountains where they live. Such a unique thought and so special to receive as a gift you can find them online here and stockists here
I think you’ll agree there’s a huge variety in the brands I’ve listed here and I hope it’ll give you some inspiration for the occasions you might have coming up.
